Urbanization and population contraction

چکیده
Abstract Urbanization is treated in the literature as a process that occurs along with economic development. We consider an overlapping generations model two regions, designated ‘urban’ and ‘rural’. Concentration of population to urban areas involves inflows from rural areas, thereby exacerbating congestion. Inverse agglomeration economies exert negative effects on income, consequently increasing attractiveness areas. Because lower fertility rates, urbanization decreases. Therefore, dynamics might be explained simultaneous contraction. However, depopulation mitigates congestion, which increases rate worker’s lifetime utility level. Eventually, it can lead stationary size.

Population and Urbanization
Urban dwellers are rapidly becoming a majority of the population. Most of them live in developing countries, and an ever-higher proportion in the biggest cities. Most of the world’s largest cities are now in developing countries, and they are growing to sizes never before experienced. The urban population is growing several times as fast as in the rural areas, either through natural growth (the...

متن کاملPopulation Ageing, Urbanization and Housing Demand
Using overlapping generation model, we find that population ageing does restrain housing demand. Then, we use the panel data of China’s 31 provinces between 2002 and 2013 to confirm that ageing restrains housing demand, the process of urbanization does the opposite and maybe offsets the negative effect to some extent. At present, China should continue to focus on developing urbanization rapidly...
متن کاملUrbanization and Population Growth The Impact on China
Urbanization is defined as the process by which people and the amount of production in a particular rural area relocate to a city setting. Since China's reform in 1978, the country has experienced dramatic urbanization and economic growth. Consequently, with a population of approximately 1.3 billion, China is faced with many challenges, one of which is an extensive food shortage (Wen, Guoming.....
متن کاملThe implications of population growth and urbanization for climate change
This paper considers the implications of population growth and urbanization for climate change. It emphasizes that it is not the growth in (urban or rural) populations that drives the growth in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions but rather, the growth in consumers and in their levels of consumption. A signifi cant proportion of the world’s urban (and rural) populations have consumption levels that ...
